The first FIA World Council chaired by Mohammed Ben Sulayem concluded with a burst of appointments, not the least of which was that of Sam Michael, promoted to head of the “Safety Commission”.

Sam Michael began his career in F1 at Lotus in 1993, but it was within the team Williams that he acquired his credentials by occupying several positions, including those of operations manager and, above all, technical director. Passed to McLaren At the end of 2011 after ten years of loyal service at Grove, he left F1 and returned to his native Australia at the end of the 2014 season where he worked for several years as an advisor to the Triple Eight Supercars team.

More recently, he has focused on Ox Mountain, a machine learning company he co-founded in 2015. The following year, he was offered the leadership of the Australian Institute for Motor Sport Safety before taking part in the working group composed by the FIA ​​to work on new safety devices. Michael, 50, who has worked for several seasons within the single-seater commission of the governing body, is therefore propelled to head the Safety Commission which looks into accidents and safety equipment problems in all motorsport disciplines.

Among other changes within the FIA ​​structure, Felipe Massa passes from the presidency of the International Commission of karting CIK at the head of the Drivers Commission, replacing Tom Kristensen who campaigned for Graham Stoker. Massa's replacement at the Karting Commission is the Indian Akbar Ebrahim. Furthermore, Deborah Mayer succeeds Michèle Mouton as president of the Women in Motorsport commission.
