We knew Sergio Pérez the pilot of Formula 1 for a decade, now it’s time for “Checo”, the racing boat team owner! The Mexican presented this Tuesday, July 26, an astonishing electric outboard team project for the world championship UIM E1, which will begin during 2023.

The boat takes on the colors of Mexico, and for good reason: Sergio Pérez's boat will compete under the banner of Team Mexico in the UIM E1, a new electric championship launched by the founder of Formula Electric, the Spaniard Alejandro Agag.

The two men crossed paths in 2010, when Alejandro Agag signed hopeful Sergio Pérez to his Barwa Addax team in the GP2 Series. At the time, the future Grand Prix winner finished runner-up behind Venezuelan Pastor Maldonado.

“Given my relationship with Alejandro (Agag), I followed what he was doing and his various championships closely, and I think what he accomplished in promoting more sustainable forms of motorsport is remarkable, justifies Sergio Pérez, currently pilot Red Bull Racing in F1. Seeing a racing team display the flag of Mexico on the world stage will be incredible and I can't wait to see the RaceBird in action for the first time. I've heard a lot of positive stories about the boat and the exciting sports product that E1 is trying to create for fans with in-town events. »

Alejandro Agag, co-founder and president of E1, commented: “Checo and I have remained close friends since we worked together during GP2, where Checo drove for my team. In a funny way I kind of feel like it's come full circle, I signed him as a driver and now Sergio is going into his own team in E1.

He is not only an incredibly fast and talented racing driver, but he is also intelligent and has all the qualities necessary to become a successful team owner. I'm excited to welcome Checo to the E1 family and can't wait to see how Team Mexico's plans develop. »
