A Trophy in honor of Lionel Régal

If the world of hill racing remains very moved by the premature departure of Lionel Régal, there is no shortage of tributes. This weekend, it was Max Mamers who decided to create a Lionel Régal Trophy in the “Promotion” category of the Andros Trophy, the driver having shone in this same category in previous winters.

This Monday, it is Nicolas Deschaux, president of the French Motor Sports Federation, who formalizes the establishment of a Lionel Régal Trophy in the French Mountain Championship, a discipline dominated by the Rhodanian, five-time French Champion and who was heading towards a sixth title before making a fatal exit from the track during the St Ursanne Les Rangiers hill climb (Switzerland).

« It was up to us to honor the memory of Lionel Régal, declared Nicolas Deschaux this Monday in Versailles. We have decided to create the Lionel Régal Trophy which will reward each year the best young person in the French Mountain Championship »

Following this announcement, Lionel Régal's mother took the stage to receive a trophy in tribute to her son. If the driver is greatly missed in the world of hill racing, the man is still remembered.
