World RX – Toomas Heikkinen takes the lead in Latvia

In Riga in Latvia, the Audi clan got off to an excellent start this Saturday thanks to the S1 of the EKS RX team driven by Toomas Heikkinen.

If Johan Kristoffersson (PSRX – Volkswagen Polo GTi), championship leader and winner of the last four events on the calendar, had won the first qualifying round, Heikkinen took the best in his race in Q2 to set the best cumulative time of the round, contested in rainy conditions.

The Finn precedes in Q2 the Ford Focus RS RX – Hoonigan Racing Division of Andreas Bakkerud and the Peugeot 208 WRX – Sébastien’s Team Peugeot-Hansen Loeb. At the end of the day, Heikkinen is ahead of Kristoffersson and Bakkerud, while the top 5 is completed by Mattias Ekström and Timmy Hansen. Sébastien Loeb is in sixth place.

The top 12, qualifying for the semi-finals, is completed by Reinis Nitiss (Audi S1 – EKS RX), Petter Solberg (PSRX – Volkswagen Polo GTi), victim of a suspension problem in Q2, Kevin Hansen (Peugeot 208 – Team Peugeot-Hansen), Janis Baumanis (STARD – Ford Fiesta), Nico Müller (Audi S1 – EKS RX) and Timur Timerzyanov (STARD – Ford Fiesta).

Aligned with the DA Racing Peugeot 208, François Duval signed 7th and 14th times in Q1 and Q2 and is in provisional 15th place before the last two qualifying rounds. Less success in the MJP Racing Team Austria clan, since Timo Scheider was the victim of a fire at the end of Q1 while Kevin Eriksson experienced an electrical problem on the starting grid in Q2 after the arrival of the rain.
