We do not approach a trip to the Charade circuit (Puy-de-Dôme) as an ordinary competition. Its length (3,975 km) makes it one of the most demanding events of the French historic season, but that's not all. Its prestige probably impresses all of the 270 drivers registered for this penultimate meeting of the year in the Historic Tour. It is in fact not far from Clermont-Ferrand that four editions of the French Grand Prix Formula 1 were held on horseback between the 1960s and 1970s. The last time that F1 resonated on the hills of Auvergne was precisely half a century ago, with the success of the British Sir Jackie Stewart (Tyrrell) on 2 July 1972.
