French drivers in F1 – Erik Comas

Born September 28, 1963 in Romans-Sur-Isère (Drôme)

Erik Comas arrived in F1 with the finest track record one could dream of. French Champion of karting (Classe Bleue) in 1983, the driver from Romans-sur-Isère cut his teeth in the R5 Cup Alpine Turbo (2e of the Tremplin Bilstein reserved for beginners) while enrolling in the Winfield flying school at Paul-Ricard. Winner of the Elf driver, he debuts in Formula Renault in 1985, finishing 4e with a victory at Croix-en-Ternois. The following year, he topped the competition with eight victories.
