Who said that classic car racing was reserved for veterans and other gentlemen drivers? The 2022 edition of Goodwood Revival (September 17-18) attracts drivers from a wide variety of disciplines such as Formula 1, WEC,Imsa, Tourism, MotoGP and even the WRC.

 

As for the regulars at the Goodwood circuit, we note the return of 1 F2009 world champion Jenson Button aboard two Jaguar E-Types in the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy and the RAC TT Celebration. Another world champion, much more recent, Stoffel Vandoorne, titled in Formula E with Mercedes this summer, will drive a Lotus Cortina in the St Mary's Trophy and a Jaguar E-Type in the RAC TT.

Winner twice in FE with DS Techeetah, Jean-Éric Vergne will wear a vintage suit in a Mini Cooper S in the St Mary's Trophy and a Jaguar Type-E Semi lightweight in the RAC TT.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans will be proudly represented with nine former winners, the first of which “Monsieur Le Mans” Tom Kristensen (Alfa Romeo Giulia and Lister Coupé). France is present through the participation of Romain Dumas (Ford Galaxie and AC Cobra) and Benoît Tréluyer (Allard 2JX and Chevrolet Corvette Stingray). Let us also mention André Lotterer, Neel Jani, Brendon Hartley, Jochen Mass and Marcel Fassler.

Americans also cross the Atlantic. No less than 10 titlesIndyCar found themselves in England thanks to Scott Dixon and Dario Franchit, teamed up in a Jaguar E-Type in the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy.

Two new kids join the party. The pilot M-Sport Ford in WRC, Craig Breen, will drive a Lotus Cortina in the St Mary's Trophy. Jimmie Johnson, seven-time champion Nascar, who has been in IndyCar since 2021, will be aboard a Ford Galaxie (St Mary's Trophy) and an AC Cobra (RAC TT).

What races?

Several races are held over the three days, including the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy (formerly known as the Kinrara Trophy), a one-hour race for GT cars which raced until 1963. The St Mary's Trophy is a event mixing professionals and amateurs, consisting of two 25-minute races. The Whitsun Trophy was a 20-minute race for prototypes until 1966.

The Royal Automobile Club TT Celebration is a one-hour race for pro-am crews and cars up to 1964 which competed in the Royal Automobile Club Tourist Trophy when it was held at Goodwood at that time. The Glover Trophy is a 20-minute race for 1,5-litre Grand Prix cars from 1961 to 1965. Finally, the Goodwood Trophy consists of a 20-minute race for Grand Prix and Voiturette cars from 1930 to 1951.
