Those nostalgic for the French Grand Prix, absent from the calendar Formula 1 this year for the first time since 2017, are reassured. The variation of Historic French Grand Prix set on the Paul-Ricard circuit (Var), launched with the support of the Fédération Française du Sport Automobile (FFSA) by HVM Racing, has in no way suffered the disappearance of the contemporary event. Even better, the event is doing wonderfully and it is certain that the ringing of Easter bells will be covered by the angry melody of the V8 and V10 engines of single-seaters from the last five decades on the weekend of April 7 to 9. It will even be the only opportunity for fans to observe old F1 races in France this year!

The 2023 Historic French Grand Prix live video, Saturday April 8 from 10:15 a.m.:

« Since 2017, when the Historic French Grand Prix was created in collaboration with HVM Racing, this event has continued to grow and has now found its audience », rejoices Nicolas Deschaux, president of the FFSA. More than two hundred and twenty cars are announced on the Var track, spread over no less than twelve races. The top of the basket will be held by the Boss GP, a veritable potpourri of all the types of powerful single-seaters imagined between the 1990s and 2000s. Last year, a Benetton, Jaguar and Toro Rosso animated the Grand Prix de France historique (GPFH), but in their wake, the GP2, Superleague Formula, World Series by Renault et F3000 delighted the approximately 20 spectators.

Renowned pilots

The 1970s and 1980s will be represented by a field specifically set up for the occasion by HVM Racing. F1 and F2 of this period are accepted, with a notable beginner: Éric Hélary, winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1993, who will drive an Ensign. The FIA Historic Formula 3 European Cup Pre 85 will be full with forty competitors; the Formula Ford 1600 (1967-1992) will have nothing to be ashamed of with its forty-two entries, just like the Lotus Trophy.

If the show will be on track, the paddocks will also be full of entertainment. Various signing sessions will allow you to approach and interact with legends of motorsport, and not the least: Rene Arnoux (winner of the 1982 edition on the same Paul-Ricard circuit), Jean Alesi, Henri Pescarolo, Jean-Pierre Jarier, Yannick Dalmas, among others. Some will do it again, like Jean Alesi, entered with a Lotus 26R in the new race “ Endurance 6 VdeV Hours of the GPFH”. He will be accompanied by his friend Philippe Gache, a former driver who participated in ten editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Henri Pescarolo, to whom we dedicate the brand new Collector AUTOhebdo currently available on newsstands, will perform parades aboard a Matra F2, alongside Franck Montagny. The Canal+ analyst will take his place in the seat of an AGS JH24 from the 1989/1990 seasons. Finally, an exhibition of around twenty legendary F1 cars is planned. “ We will make special efforts in favor of spectators, confirms Laurent Vallery-Masson, director of HVM Racing. We want the public to truly become an actor in the Grand Prix de France historique. »
