With two successes in GTE Pro over the last 10 years, Giancarlo Fisichella is one of the most experienced drivers when it comes to talking about 24 Hours of Le Mans. At least in its category. Winner in 2012 and 2014 with AF Corse, the former pilot Renault en Formula 1 nevertheless does not appear in the list of entrants for the Centenary edition.

No traces of the Italian in Hypercar, where Ferrari returns to Sarthe more than half a century after its last official participation in the premier category. No traces either in GTE Am either with AF Corse or Iron Lynx with whom he competed in the event in 2022. A rare occurrence for someone who had participated in the last 13 editions. What to worry about? Not really. If he will not be there in Sarthe on June 10 and 11, Giancarlo Fisichella could find her again next year with a potential 499P client or even the Ferrari 296 GT3 of which he was one of the developers.

Fisichella the passionate

« I am still a development driver for Ferrari's Competizione division, in GT. I've been taking classes for about ten years.Endurance in GT even if this year I am not involved in the program in WEC, advanced the Transalpine in front of the press in Hungary. Why not one day drive alongside a gentleman driver, or someone else, in a Hypercar. That would be very nice. There may also be the possibility of doing so with the Ferrari 296 GT3 since the category will enter the WEC next year.."

Despite this absence from the 24 Hours of Le Mans and a less busy sporting program in 2023, Giancarlo Fisichella does not intend to stop there. At 50, the Italian sees himself in the world of motorsport for a few more years. “ I still enjoy riding as much. I like this sport. I will only stop when I feel that it is no longer possible to do so. » We might as well tell you that the former teammate of Fernando Alonso during the coronations of Renault is not about to hang up the suit.
