Committed to an ambitious strategy entitled “Race to 2030”, the ACO aims to achieve carbon neutrality in 2030, in particular by reducing its carbon emissions by 30% and developing a carbon contribution program. As part of this partnership, TotalEnergies will make available all its expertise in energy transition and will notably support the ACO in carrying out an energy audit of its infrastructure, in the installation of charging stations for electric vehicles and in the solarization of its buildings or parking lots. Through this partnership, TotalEnergies also continues its long-standing commitment to endurance competitions by offering alternative fuels to fossil fuels such as biofuels or hydrogen.

Endurance races with waste-based fuel

A true open-air laboratory, the track represents an essential vector of innovation, because the extreme constraints of endurance – race duration and high mileage – push us to develop ever more efficient fuels which will one day be intended for motorists.

To meet these requirements, TotalEnergies has developed Excellium Racing 100, a competition fuel produced from waste and residues particularly from wine growing (wine lees and grape marc) and which meets all manufacturers' requirements. , engine manufacturers and the European directive on renewable energies (RED). It offers at least 65% reduction in CO2 emissions, at a minimum, over its life cycle. This certified 100% sustainable fuel was introduced for the first time in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) in March 2022 on the occasion of 1000 miles of Sebring (USA) and is used by the entire grid. The FIA WEC as well as the European Le Mans Series were pioneers in using such fuel for all competitors.

« I am very happy to renew our partnership with TotalEnergies, a loyal entity which offers us concrete actions to respond to environmental challenges. Until 2028, TotalEnergies will help us make the Bugatti circuit a demonstrator of the energy transition and will allow us to continue to make endurance a pioneering discipline in terms of innovations. This contract covers all ACO-labeled championships and major events: FIA WEC, Asian Le Mans Series, European Le Mans Series, 24 Heures Motos and Michelin Le Mans Cup. I thank TotalEnergies for its trust and expertise ", declared Pierre Fillon, president of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest.

« We are very pleased to renew today our partnership with the Automobile Club de l'Ouest and Le Mans Endurance Management to support them in their energy transition and towards carbon neutrality. Motorsport and more particularly endurance and the 24 Hours of Le Mans are for TotalEnergies a real laboratory and a showcase for the innovative solutions that the Company offers to its customers. Biofuels have an important role to play in advancing the transport sector by immediately reducing CO2 emissions and we are delighted to be able to provide the ACO with a 100% sustainable fuel », declared Patrick Pouyanné, Chairman and CEO of TotalEnergies.

« Since 2018, TotalEnergies has been at our side, positioning us as pioneers through the introduction of a fully renewable fuel, allowing us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint during our competitions. We look forward to continuing this fruitful collaboration with TotalEnergies through all the championships organized by LMEM: the FIA WEC, the European Le Mans Series, the Asian Le Mans Series and the Michelin Le Mans Cup, which act as so many laboratories to open sky », declared Frédéric Lequien, Managing Director of Le Mans Endurance Management.
