Sébastien Philippe: Vandoorne, “the ideal driver for our program”

Why did you choose Stoffel Vandoorne?

We've been trying to integrate him into the team for a while, but until now, due to his other programs, it wasn't possible. We know it very well having driven it for two years (in the GP2 Series. Editor's note) and we think thathe is the ideal driver for our program, quite simply.

Do you think he has the right mentality forEndurance ?

You can never know beforehand, but what is certain is that he has a good state of mind and is very pleasant to be around.

How do you judge the team's progress?

We are progressing at all levels, ART GP at the operating level, but also AER (engine. Editor's note) and Dallara (chassis. Editor's note). But we know how complicated completing a 24-hour race is. However, in the 6 hour races, we reached a level. We are heading in the right direction.

Don't you miss Jenson Button's aura and expertise?

He brought us a lot during the three races he did with us. He contributed to the progress of the team. He is an extremely professional person and an excellent driver, but more than regretting him, I prefer to tell myself that we were lucky to have him.
