Thomas Laurent with Alpine in LM P2 in 2019-20

Promoted to Reserve Driver for the 2019-20 World Endurance Championship season (WEC) within Toyota Gazoo Racing in LM P1, Thomas Laurent will however have the opportunity to race in LM P2. The Frenchman will wear the Signatech suit Alpine at the World level.

The native of La Roche-sur-Yon (Vendée) will replace Nicolas lapierre from the opening of the 2019-20 season at Silverstone (Great Britain, September 1). Currently third in the 2018-2019 WEC Super Season, Thomas Laurent will participate on June 15 and 16 in his third 24 Hours of Le Mans, on the No. 13 Rebellion R3 of Rebellion Racing, which he shares with Nathanaël Berthon and Gustavo Menezes, with the ambition of securing a third podium in as many starts.

« I loved my experience in LM P2 and returning to this category in addition to my duties as an LM P1 test driver is a real chance, explains Thomas Laurent, winner in LM P2 at Le Mans in 2017.  I had already had the opportunity to ride with the Team during my first steps in prototype in Bahrain during my first Rookie Test. It is a pleasure to wear the colors of this iconic brand and, I hope, to participate in its history. »

Philippe Sinault, Principal Team of Signatech Alpine, details this transfer. “Nicolas has chosen to take on a new challenge and it is never easy to replace a driver of his caliber who has brought so much to the team and to Alpine, and reciprocally. We leave with the satisfaction of the work accomplished and with lots of memories and emotions.

We have been following Thomas for a long time since we allowed him to take his first laps in LMP2 in 2016. The opportunity to work together presented itself and we are delighted to be able to count on the best French hope in the world.Endurance to be in the same state of mind, the same will and the same lineage as what we have built with Nicolas in recent years. VS

The choice was obvious to us and Thomas offers us a great mark of confidence by joining us for the next stage of his career. »
