Ayrton Senna left 22 years ago

On May 1, 1994, 22 years ago, Ayrton Senna died in an accident at the San Marino Grand Prix (Italy) in circumstances that continue to be debated. After having lived six glorious seasons at McLaren with anthology passes at arms facing Alain Prost which will forever mark the history of F1, the Brazilian had found refuge with Williams for the 1994 season.

If Grove's new recruit had won a new pole at Imola, the weekend had already been marked by Roland Ratzenberger's fatal accident during qualifying. If this event will forever remain a true tragedy for the discipline, it will also mark the beginnings of an increasing strengthening of security measures. But Jules Bianchi's accident on October 5, 2014 at the Japanese GP proves that efforts must continue.

Ayrton Senna has won three world titles, 41 victories, 80 podiums, 65 poles in just 161 Grands Prix. But far beyond the statistics, it is the personality and aura of the Brazilian that arouses as much admiration as respect in the world of motorsport.
