Button: “My lead is disappearing! »

Jenson, how do you explain your poor qualification yesterday?
I struggled with the Options tires and I haven't felt very confident with the car since the start of the weekend. I still have a lot of understeer. I don?t have any grip, especially in “medium speed” corners. Even with understeer, the rear slides. With the Primes, it wasn't too bad and maybe we should have stayed with them.

How do you see the race?
Difficult. Starting from 14th place, I can't hope for anything better than a few points. Our race pace is good, but we will have to be aggressive in our approach compared to the others.

Barrichello has measured you for several races?
Yes, especially since two races. In previous events, when it was cold, one was faster, then the other. For two races, he has been systematically faster and more satisfied with the car. I have a problem with instability at the rear and it's something I didn't have before. This is my biggest problem.

Has anything changed on the car in the last two races that could explain your problems?
No. We change things every race, but on both cars.

The positive thing is that you still have a good lead in the championship?
Yes, but it is melting! I lost eight points to Rubens in Valencia; which was all the more frustrating as I had a good pace. I'm not fast here. He starts from the 2nd row while I am outside the top 10. He can take back a lot of points from me this afternoon.

Do you maintain confidence?
Yes of course. I am the only driver to have won more than twice this season. Only, at the moment, I can't get anything from the car. This is something we need to look at. We have two weeks before Monza and I hope we can find the reasons?
