Frédéric Vasseur: “That Théo Pourchaire has all the weapons in hand to arrive in F1”

Flagship driver of Sauber's junior program, Theo Pourchaire has been mentioned for several weeks in the list of contenders for a seat in Formula 1 in Alfa Romeo, in order to become the teammate of Valtteri Bottas in 2022. But Alfa Romeo, which is the only team to still have a seat available, does not seem in a hurry to announce the identity of its future driver. In addition to French, Chinese Guanyu-Zhou, current second of Formula 2 for his third season in the antechamber of F1, is strongly anticipated.

A strong testing program for Pourchaire

Guest Monday evening on the “Julien Débrief” on the Canal + Sport Twitch channel, the main French team of the team based in Hinwil revealed some clues as to the future of the great French hope. First, he has arranged to meet next Tuesday, November 16, two days after the Brazilian Grand Prix, for the announcement of the second Alfa Romeo driver. Half-heartedly, he also implied that it was perhaps still a little early to throw Théo Pourchaire into the lions' den, while strongly insinuating that he was counting on him in the near future.

“I want at all costs for Théo to have all the weapons in hand to arrive in F1, he actually explained during the live. We are currently thinking about giving him a solid testing program in F1 to prepare him well. The drivers' lifelong goal is to go to F1. The problem is that it is not an end in itself, because you have to perform and very often these two projects do not go hand in hand. Lewis Hamilton had done 2 seasons of Formula Renault, 2 of F3 and one from F2, when he could have gone there earlier. But he made the right choice at the time!” Waiting a bit to make a career like Lewis Hamilton, that’s all the harm we wish Théo Pourchaire…
