Lewis Hamilton not give 100%, but 101%. The Briton dominated his subject during qualifying for the 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix, this Saturday July 31 on the Hungaroring circuit.

The wearer of number 44 even played a psychological game by lowering the pace in the pit lane when exiting for his last attempt in Q3, in order to push Max Verstappen to annoyance and ultimately to a potential fault. The Dutchman did not fall into the trap and was able to start his final round behind his seven-time world champion rival.

This bluff turned into a bluff because Lewis Hamilton was unable to improve on his best mark (1'15''419) at the start of Q3, while Max Verstappen missed the mark by coming within four tenths of his opponent. A time which does not even guarantee him second place on the starting grid, but rather third place behind Valtteri Bottas (Mercedes).

Behind, Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri, 5th) fails within one breath of the Red Bull by Sergio Pérez (4th), while Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) must be satisfied with seventh place, behind Lando Norris (McLaren). Both Alpine are back in the top 10. For the first time since Monaco in May, Esteban Ocon (8th) ahead of his Spanish colleague Fernando Alonso (9e)

The second phase of qualifying was interrupted by a red flag following the exit of the track Carlos Sainz Jr (Ferrari). The Madrilenian lost control of his car at the start of the last corner, and hit the wall of tires sideways.

The former McLaren driver then tried to get back on track, before the front wing lodged under his flat bottom, preventing him from turning. His replacement within the English team, Daniel Ricciardo, also makes a grimace, he who was unable to access Q3 (11th).

The session took place without Mick Schumacher (Haas). The German, who made a mistake a few hours earlier, remained in his pit because the damage to his car had not been completely repaired.

The 2021 Hungarian Grand Prix will begin at 15 p.m. Sunday August 1.
