Ferrari SF1000 improved on cornering speed for Leclerc

Devilish in a straight line in 2019, the SF90 benefited greatly from the power of its V6 turbo/hybrid Power Unit to achieve victories at Monza and Spa, two tracks where the famous “VMax” is of capital importance.

But in addition to these services, it is clear that the car Italian could not compete on the rest of the circuits on equal terms with the Mercedes W10, or even at the end of the campaign with the Red Bull RB15, despite developments going in the right direction in terms of aerodynamics.

La Team Ferrari therefore tried to resolve this weakness on its new SF1000, with success according to Charles Leclerc. « I think the biggest strength is this speed in the corners, specified the Monegasque in the Barcelona paddock.

I think that we achieved our goal. Then we have to wait and see the overall performance of the car, but… we go through the corners faster than last year, so that's positive. But we need to continue working on this car to unlock a little more performance. »

A passing speed which, however, remains an increasing characteristic on all 2020 cars, with an aero package offering a very high level of downforce. It will therefore be necessary to judge in real time the progress of a Scuderia Ferrari which has clearly not sought ultimate performance for the moment.

“I think that for every car, there is a target balance, believes the former Sauber driver. A balance that you aim for in qualifying and for the race to get the most out of the car.

So far we've tried different options today (yesterday), and I think I'm starting to get a feel for the balance we need to achieve to be the fastest. We will have to finalize this for the last day, which will be very important for qualifying and the race in Melbourne. »
