In just under a week, the FIA validated the sale of the F1 at Liberty Media, before seeing the acquisition process confirmed last night, but also saw the replacement of its historic relay in the discipline Bernie Ecclestone by Chase Carey, the new general director of F1.
This Tuesday, the federation and its president Jean Todt particularly wanted to thank Bernie Ecclestone for his involvement for almost 40 years. “The FIA, the international regulator of motorsport, expresses its gratitude to Bernie Ecclestone, outgoing CEO of the Formula One Group, for 40 years of dedication to the FIA Formula One World Championship and his contribution as a member to the work of the F1 Commission and the World Motor Sport Council.
The FIA created Formula One when it established the first regulations for the category in 1946. The Federation remains committed to regulating the FIA Formula One World Championship fairly, safely and in the best interests of the discipline – as it has always strived to do since its beginnings sixty-seven years ago.
