New Honda engines for Gasly and Hartley in Austin

Specification C of the Honda powerplant may have satisfied Suzuka two weeks ago, but the Japanese manufacturer is obviously not yet completely satisfied with it and has therefore decided to make some adjustments for the United States Grand Prix.

« On both cars, the new engines will include minor changes compared to the version used in the Japanese Grand Prix, said Toyoharu Tanabe, Honda technical director. After examining the Suzuka thrusters, we had some concerns and therefore chose to make these modifications. We are convinced that this is the best strategy for Toro Rosso at the end of the season ».

Official FIA documents revealed that Pierre Gasly will use a 7th internal combustion engine, a 7th turbocharger, a 7th MGU-H, and a 6th MGU-K this weekend. His teammate Brendon Hartley will receive the same treatment this Friday evening and will thus accompany the Norman at the back of the pack on Sunday.

As a reminder, the 2018 annual allocation for each driver includes three ICEs, three MGU-Hs, and three turbochargers as well as two MGU-Ks, two batteries, and two electronic controls.

Obviously, the preparation work for Red Bull Racing and 2019 continues at full speed and it doesn't matter if the Toro Rosso drivers serve as guinea pigs starting from the depths of the grid. They're starting to get used to it.
