Pietro Fittipaldi remains before the 2023 season kicks off Formula 1 the last Brazilian representative on the starting grid (at the end of the 2020 season with Haas); the grandson of Emerson Fittipaldi will keep his place in the paddocks within Haas F1 Team this season.

However, the 26-year-old pilot will not be a starter, but a reserve within the American team. Jota's new representative in LM P2 in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) will also fulfill the role of test driver for Haas, as has already been the case since 2019.

“I am very happy to continue with Haas F1 Team, a team that I consider like family, said Pietro Fittipaldi. This will be my fifth season in Formula 1 as an official reserve and test driver for Haas and I'm super excited to head into 2023 coming off a very competitive season.

Last year I took part in two free practice sessions, I did some testing at the start of the year as well as the end of season test in Abu Dhabi, so we have already been able to try some developments for the next campaign. I'm looking forward to seeing the new car and the new developments, and I hope we'll be able to take an even bigger step forward with the VF-23. »

His boss Guenther Steiner focused on stability through this contract renewal. “I have already said that continuity and consistency are the key to success in Formula 1 and the fact that Pietro remains with the team for 2023 makes me believe that we have solid foundations.

In Formula 1 you have to be able to react within the smallest of margins to any scenario, and Pietro has a proven track record and is ready to step in at any moment to take the wheel, as he did twice in 2020 (replacing Romain Grosjean, hurt. Editor’s note).

Last season he took part in pre-season testing, two free practice sessions and post-season testing in the VF-22 and, unlike many drivers on the grid, he said that this car suits its aggressive styling, which is sweet to hear since running time is so limited. He is an asset to our team and I look forward to seeing him continue with us this season. »
