An F1 on the Nordschleife? In Grand Prix this has not been seen since 1976 and the terrible accident of Niki Lauda. Since then, there have been few opportunities to see a Formula 1 stroll through the middle of the Nürburgring forest. The last happy one was Michael Schumacher when he got behind the wheel of the Mercedes W02 from 2011 on the sidelines of the 24 2013 Hours of Nürburgring.

Before him, his compatriot Nick Heidfled was also treated to a ride on the 20,832 kilometers of the Nordschleife. It was in 2007. The German then took a lap in the BMW Sauber F1. 06 (2006 season). The goal then was not to go for a time since its car had been raised to the maximum and the top speed blocked at 275 km/h. In addition, this one ran on hard demonstration tires. Needless to say, he didn't come to break all the records. He then got away with a lap in 6'36 and had not even completed his efforts since the mechanics were waiting for him on the start/finish line.

Sixteen years after this BMW Sauber escapade, Red Bull will repeat the feat on the Nordschleife with Daniel Ricciardo et Sebastian Vettel. The first will be at the wheel of the RB8, the second on the RB7. It will be September 8 and 9 for the 12 Hours of the Nürburgring, a round counting for the NLS.

On board camera with Heidfeld who is very clean avoiding all the curbs and slabs in the Karroussel, we realize to what extent this emblematic track dates from another era and is totally unsuitable for single-seaters regardless of whether it is acts like an F1, an F2 or an F3! The absence of clearances in certain places is close to a city route...
