Zolder is hosting the FIA GT field this weekend for a special event in more than one way. The FIA GT will celebrate its last outing there, after thirteen years of existence and 131 starts. From 2010, the field will be separated between, on one side, the GT1 world championship and, on the other, the GT2 European championship. For the last event bringing them together this year, the two categories chose to wait until the last event to distribute the rewards.

In GT1, the title will be played out between two crews, Michael Bartels and Andrea Bertolini facing Mike Hezemans and Anthony Kumpen. This duel will pit the Vitaphone team against Pekaracing, a Maserati against a Corvette, the two cars which have dominated the entire season. The reigning champion crew, at the wheel of the No. 12 Maserati MC 1, starts with a lead of four points but without excessive confidence. Indeed, the Italian car was dominated during the last two meetings, won by two Corvettes, the C6.R of SRT at Portimao and that of Sangari Team Brazil on the Paul-Ricard circuit.

In the GT3 European Championship, the game is far from over, since a double distribution of points is still to be made during this Zolder meeting. The French crew Thomas Accary / Julien Rodrigues is currently at the top of the rankings but there are still many contenders hoping to succeed Arnaud Peyroles and James Ruffier, crowned in 2008.

Note that Zolder will also host, in addition to the FIA GT and FIA GT3, the outcome of the BTCS, the Belgian touring car championship, and the Belgian GT.
