FIA GT – Loeb and Parente win the qualifying race at Navarra

Alvaro Parente took the lead in the FIA GT Series qualifying race at Navarra on a wet track. Marc Basseng, on pole in the Reiter Engineering Lamborghini LP560-4, was in difficulty and quickly fell to the back of the peloton. There McLaren #9 was pursued by the two leading Audi R8 LMSs from Team WRT until the pit stop. Sebastian Loeb left as leader, leaving the crews of the Belgian team to continue to duel, both being contenders for the crown.

Frank Stippler and Edward Sandström made the right choice by keeping the rain tires. The #8 R13 LMS ultra crossed the finish line second behind the nine-time world champion WRC, while the sister car #11 of Laurens Vanthoor and Stéphane Ortelli only took the checkered flag in seventh position. The Monegasque lost numerous places after choosing to start on slicks. The Championship leaders, however, maintain a 16-point lead over their teammates, but risk losing more in the Championship Race contested this afternoon if they fail to recover.

Hari Proczyk and Gerhard Tweraser completed the race podium at the wheel of the Grasser Racing Team Lamborghini and finished first in the Pro-Am category. Andreas Simonsen and Sergei Afanasiev place first Mercedes HTP Gravity Charouz in fourth, while Mike Parisy and Andreas Zuber completed the top five in the second McLaren of Sébastien Loeb Racing after starting from the penultimate row of the grid.

The start of the Championship race will be given this afternoon at 14:15 p.m. and will be followed live video on AUTOhebdo.fr.
