GT1 – Team WRT wants to conquer Moscow

The Belgian Audi Club Team WRT hit hard at the start of the season by securing the first Championship victory at Nogaro with Stéphane Ortelli and Laurens Vanthoor at Nogaro. But the Audi R8s have since not found their way to the podium even if the two crews of the Belgian team finished in the top five during its second round contested in Slovakia. This weekend in Russia, on a circuit discovered by the entire FIA GT1 World paddock, Laurens Vanthoor intends to return to the forefront. “We will see how the GT cars work in terms of pace. If the succession of braking and acceleration is not too harsh, this track should suit Audi. »

Pierre Deudonné, director of WRT Sports, recognizes that this meeting represents a challenge for the team which is making its first trip to the Moscow Raceway circuit. Nevertheless, the performance achieved in Slovakia puts a smile on his face. “We prepared ourselves to have difficulties as is always the case when going to a new circuit. We performed well two weeks earlier in Slovakia and only external factors caused us to miss the podium. I hope we can capitalize on that. The slight weight compensations announced by the FIA before this round could help although it will not solve the fundamental problems with the balance of performance. What is certain is that our fighting spirit is intact. We are not in a good position at the two Championships but we will fight as long as we have our chances. »

Laurens Vanthoor and Stéphane Ortelli are 51 points behind Yelmer Buurman and Michael Bartels. As for Team WRT, the Belgian team occupies third place in the 49-unit All-Inkl.com Münnich Motorsport Teams Championship.
