Maserati inherits victory

Karl Wendlinger and Ryan Sharp, absent at Spa-Francorchamps for the 24 Hours event, thought they had returned to success in the most beautiful way. After a start to the race dominated by the Sangari Team Brazil Corvette then by the No. 12 Maserati MC1, the crew of the Saleen S7 from Team K Plus K took control before winning triumphantly at the Hungaroring. But, after the race, technical checks excluded the Saleen from the race. This showed an irregularity in the engine, which did not stop after blocking the flanges. The blow is tough for Karl Wendlinger and Ryan Sharp, who obtained deserved success on the track, before seeing themselves dispossessed after the podium.

As a result of this downgrade, Andrea Bertolini and Michael Bartels, whose No. 12 Maserati MC1 took the lead after getting the better of the Sangari Team Brazil Corvette. With the ten points from victory, the two men place themselves at the top of the FIA-GT standings, four points ahead of Anthony Kumpen and Mike Hezemans, winners at Oschersleben and Spa-Francorchamps, and fifth on Sunday in Budapest.

In GT2, Emmanuel Collard and Richard Westbrook returned to success, after their fifth place at Spa-Francorchamps. The crew of the Prospeed team gleaned their third victory of the season in Budapest and ideally places themselves back in the title race. However, the two men are still ahead of the standings by their biggest rivals, Gianmaria Bruni and Toni Vilander, second in Budapest after their success at the 24 Hours of Spa.
