If Will Brown, author of the best qualifying time on Friday, or even Shane van Gisbergen were expected this Saturday during the Top 10 Shootout, it was Chaz Mostert who surprised everyone at Mount Panorama.

In the fight on Friday where he only let the best time slip by 78 thousandths, the Walkinshaw Andretti United driver hit hard this Saturday during the battle for pole position. On a more rubberized track, the result of two new free practice sessions, the native of Melbourne considerably improved the benchmark from the day before to finish in the lead with a lap in 2'03"373, making him the fastest man fastest in Bathurst history after beating the record of 2'03"378 previously held by Scott McLaughlin.

On the checkerboard, Chaz Mostert beat Anton De Pasquale by almost 3 tenths and Cameron Waters by a little more than 3 tenths. Leader on Friday, Will Brown suffered the blow and was only able to record the 5th mark, 6 tenths from the absolute reference. 2021 champion and discreet on Friday, Shane van Gisbergen also remained so this Saturday with the 7th fastest time of the session once again by more than 9 tenths. Will Davison, Nick Percat and Jack Le Brocq completed the Top 10.
