One Holden Commodore hides another. After the two successes of Shane van Gibsergen (Triple Eight) on Saturday, it was Chaz Mostert (Walkinshaw Andretti United) who won the last victory at stake, his second of the weekend. SvG won the Larry Perkins Trophy which rewards the most prolific driver at the Melbourne meeting.
Best performer of the weekend, Shane van Gisbergent almost lost everything during this 4th race. Victim of a puncture (after damaging a wheel and severely blocking braking, editor's note), the driver of the No. 97 Holden was forced to go to the pits once again. Fighting for victory, the Kiwi eventually fell down the standings to cross the line in 20th position.
A situation that suited Chaz Mostert’s business. Back in front of the championship leader, “Mozzie” then made the difference thanks to a quick pit stop to beat the Will Davison-Anton de Pasquale duo from Dick Johnson Racing who had until now been in the lead. With the field clear in front of him, the one who is celebrating his 30th birthday this Sunday was then no longer caught and headed straight towards his 2nd victory of the weekend, the 3rd of the season, confirming that we will have to count on him this year.
In the general Supercars classification, Shane van Gisbergen maintains the advantage with 144 points ahead of Anton de Pasquale. Chaz Mostert moved up to 3rd place, 162 lengths behind the leader. The next round of Supercars will take place on April 30 and May 1 under the lights of Perth!
