Expected in 2023, Gen3 was released this week in Queensland where many drivers including reigning champion Shane van Gisbergen were present. On site, two new generation prototypes, a Ford Mustang GT and a Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, were sent onto the tarmac to do a series of laps to allow engineers to collect as much data as possible.
After a first day with Shane van Gisbergen and Broc Feeney on the Camaro, and James Courtney and Tim Slade on the Mustang, the Gen3s returned to the track this Friday where they reached a very important step in the development program.
This Friday, the day focused on the reliability of the cars as well as the new parts that were tested throughout. Anton De Pasquale and Will Davison on the Mustang and Shane van Gisbergen and Brodie Kostecki on the Camaro were therefore able to exceed the 1000 kilometer mark with each prototype.
« The development program is going well, underlines Adrian Burgess, boss of Supercars. During the last day of testing, the Camaro crossed the 1000 kilometer mark. Everything is going as planned. The Ford also had the opportunity (...) We encounter the usual difficulties when building a brand new car. We've had a few issues that we're still working on but we have the biggest minds in the paddock focused on it. »
