V8 – Jason Bright opens the ball at Pukekohe

Jason Bright (Team BOC) secured victory in the first of four V8 Supercars events at Pukekohe (New Zealand). Starting from pole, the driver of the No. 8 Holden had to quickly give in to attacks from Jamie Whincup (Triple Eight), but the reigning champion had to pit after encountering a steering problem. The pole sitter was thus able to regain control of the race and win ahead of the No. 97 Commodore of Shane van Gisbergen (Team Tekno VIP Petfoods) and the No. 888 of Craig Lowndes who retains the lead in the Championship.

Mark Winterbottom (Ford Pepsi Max Crew), the closest challenger to the leader of the Drivers' standings, moved into seventh place before spinning and only finishing in 13th place, the first place for a Falcon. On the other hand, Mercedes was able to score a top five with Will Davison (Erebus Motorsport) behind the Holden of James Courtney (Holden Racing Team). ScottMcLaughlin (Valvoline Racing GRM) was able to secure eighth place in his Volvo S60.
