V8 – Lowndes and Whincup don’t give up at Phillip Island

The pilots of the Red Bull Racing Australia once again dominated the V8 Supercars field at Phillip Island by winning the final two races of the weekend. Craig Lowndes took victory in Race 2 by winning in front of his teammate, which allowed him to come back to six points and remain in the title race. The driver of the No. 1 Holden had taken the lead at the start of the event, but the safety car entered the track following an oil leak in the Nissan Altima of Michael Caruso (Norton Hornets). It was at the restart that the #888 took the lead ahead of Triple Eight's sister car. The podium was completed by another Holden, with the #97 of Shane van Gisbergen (Tekno Team VIP Petfoods).

But Jamie Whincup was quick to respond as he scored another success in the last race of the weekend. The reigning champion made a good comeback in the peloton after only starting from fifth position. His teammate still had the advantage when the two Red Bull Racing Australia drivers took the lead from pole sitter Mark Winterbottom (Pepsi Max Crew FPR Ford), but the driver of the No. 1 took the lead on the second lap . Several interruptions in the race worked in favor of Jamie Whincup who regained a 20-point lead over Craig Lowndes who finally completed the podium behind the Ford. Everything will now be decided during the final in Sydney played in two weeks.
