V8 Supercars – It's almost done for Jamie Whincup

Jamie Whincup (Red Bull Racing Australia) is closing in on a fifth title, which would be its third in a row, following the first of two final races of the 2013 V8 Supercars season held in Sydney. The Championship leader took pole during the first event. Despite a mixed start, the reigning champion was able to regain his leadership position and score maximum points at the most important time of the year. The driver of the No. 1 Holden also takes his first victory at Olympic Park. “I tried here for four years but I had never arrived before,” comments the winner. It’s a great reward to finally get it. A lot has happened in my mirrors. »

The Triple Eight Racing resident will only need a 22nd place in the second to be crowned, his lead over his teammate Craig Lowndes having increased from 20 to 110 points. Mark Winterbottom (Pepsi Max Crew FPR) saw his last hopes dashed following contact with Commodore n°888. Jonathan Webb and Shane van Gisbergen, the two residents of Tekno Team, completed the podium ahead of Jason Bright (Team BOC) and Will Davison (Pepsi Max Crew FPR). After recovering from his terrible crash at Phillip Island (video), Alexandre Prémat (Fujitsu Racing GRM) took 13th place.
