Shane van Gisbergen and Jonathon Webb (Team Tekno VIP Petfoods) maintained their pole advantage in Race 1 of the Gold Coast 600 at Surfers Paradise. The crew of the No. 97 Holden had lost control of the race to Scott McLaughlin, still associated with Alexandre Prémat (GRM), but a bad strategy saw the No. 33 Volvo demoted to seventh position.
The winners took the lead by two seconds over the formidable No. 1 Holden of Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell. The podium was completed by Tim Slade and Tony d'Alberto (Supercheap Auto Racing) after the Ford of Mark Winterbottom and Steve Owen (Ford Pespi Max Crew) was penalized one position. Mark Winterbottom was too aggressive against Tim Slade in order to take third place. Michael Caruso and Dean Fiore (Norton Hornets) complete the top five ahead of Chaz Mostart and Paul Morris (Ford Pespi Max Crew).
