V8 – Whincup and Dumbrell win the Sandown 500

Jamie Whincup and Paul Dumbrell were the strongest at the Sandown 500 held in Victoria. Above the rest from qualifying, the crew of the No. 1 Holden mastered the 500km event masterfully despite the interruptions. The six-time champion now has a 273-point lead in the Championship. The most serious incident occurred at the end of the race when Lee Holdsworth (Erebus Motorsport) hit the tire wall at an estimated speed of 260km/h. If the Mercedes suffered, the pilot was simply taken to the medical center for examinations.

Holden Racing Team completes the podium with the #22 of James Courtney and Greg Murphy ahead of the #2 of Garth Tander and Warren Luff. The 2007 champion fought against Craig Lowndes (Triple Eight) in the final laps to maintain his place on the podium. The driver of the No. 888 Holden, who shared the wheel with Steve Richards, must therefore be content with fourth place, but he nevertheless becomes the closest rival to his teammate leader of the Drivers' standings, Mark Winterbottom and his teammate Steve Owen (Ford Pepsi Max Crew) only managing to score a top ten finish. Scott Pye and Ash Walsh (Wilson Security Racing) placed the leading Ford in fifth.

Despite a slightly too long stint and a significant amount of time lost in the pits, Alexandre Prémat made a strong impression by helping Scott McLaughlin take eighth place in the No. 33 Volvo entered by Garry Rogers Motorsports.
