V8SC – Jamie Whincup wins his sixth championship title

Even before the end of the Phillip Island weekend, Australian Jamie Whincup (Triple Eight Red Bull Racing Australia) entered further into the history of V8 Supercars by winning his sixth championship title with his success in the second round. He thus became the most successful driver in the discipline, surpassing in particular the legend Dick Johnson (five times crowned in the 80s) and Ian Geoghegan, titled in the 60s/70s.

Whincup was ahead of his teammate Craig Lowndes and the Ford Falcon of Mark Winterbottom (Pepsi Max Crew) who had taken the best start before seeing the future champion at the end of the second race of the weekend take control and charge towards the crown . Earlier in the morning, it was Scott McLaughlin (Volvo? Polestar Racing) who took the first race ahead of the two Holden Commodore of Lowndes and Whincup.

The V8 Supercars drivers will return to the track one last time tomorrow, for the 200 km race.
