Shane Van Gisbergen is therefore untouchable for the moment on the Melbourne circuit for the third round of the 8 V2014 Supercars. Winner of the two rounds contested yesterday, the driver of the Holden of Tekno Autosports retained the advantage of his pole to take offer its third success this Saturday.
It was at turn 7 that contact between Chad Mostert and Garth Tender caused the safety car to intervene after Dale Wood was unable to avoid both cars. At the restart, Van Gisbergen retained the advantage while Fabian Coulthard (Team BOC – Lockwood) took advantage of a small error from Craig Lowndes (Red Bull Racing Australia) to take second place. The leading trio of Holdens was not going to move, crossing the finish line with a hat-trick from the New Zealanders on Australian soil. Scott McLaughlin places his Polestar Racing Volvo S60 in fourth place. Garth Tander, Michael Caruso and his Nissan, Jamie Whincup, outgoing champion, Mark Winterbottom, David Reynolds and Todd Kelly complete the top 10.
Note that Chad Mostert is not expected to return to the track for the fourth and final race in Melbourne.
