Boss of the DTM, whose 2022 final takes place this weekend at Hockenheim, Gerhard Berger has caused the German championship to take a very sharp turn. The Austrian explains it to us and does not avoid any subject.

When you approved the transition from tourism to GT3, were you worried that the DTM lose your identity?

Know one thing, technical regulations have very little influence in our business. The DTM is not based on regulations, it is a racing format which can be contested with any type of car. It is a historic championship which has existed under several types of regulations. In our history, we have raced with fabulous cars that responded to specifications like nowhere else (the A groups in the 80s, editor’s note). Then we experienced a period where cars were almost production cars (the 90s and tourism, editor’s note) which ended up becoming real rockets (ITC from 1995 to 1996, editor’s note).
