Blancpain – Audi will aim for a double pass of three at the 24 Hours of Spa

After 2011 and 2012, the R8 LMS ultra is aiming for a third consecutive title at the 24 Hours of Spa which takes place on July 27-28. “ This year it will once again be the most impressive GT3 race imaginable., analyzes Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Director of Audi Motorsport. We believe in our teams to achieve a good result for Audi, but it will undoubtedly be very difficult ". No less than 73 participants are expected in this 4th round of Blancpain Endurance Series, the highlight of the season.

Two years ago, Audi celebrated its first victory in the great Ardennes classic. It was also the Belgian WRT team which offered it to him, with Mattias Ekström, Timo Scheider and Greg Franchi. Absent in 2012, Ekström returns this year with Edward Sandström and Marcel Fässler. Although of German nationality, André Lotterer for his part saw this experience as a “home” race. “ Spa is a bit my circuit because I grew up in Belgium, explains the winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2011 and 2012. This is one of the reasons why I am happy to participate with Vincent Vosse’s WRT team. With Frank Stippler and Christopher Mies, I have two good teammates who have won many races in the R8. We have the means to aim for first place. "

In addition to the Belgian structure, two other Audi teams are taking part in the Spa double-header, Phoenix Racing (outgoing winner) and United Autosports. “ The atmosphere at Spa is simply superb. The track is world class, the weather always throws surprises and more than 70 cars are expected. For me, it is clearly the most difficult race of the year", confides Christopher Haase, one of the drivers of Team Phoenix. Seven “official” cars will therefore attempt to take on the double challenge of a third consecutive victory at Spa, and that of a third victory in a 24 Hour event after Daytona (GT category with the R8 LMS ultra) and Le Mans ( with the R18 e-tron quattro).
