BMW will return to the DTM in 2012

BMW, after withdrawing from Formula 1, continues to reorganize its motorsport department. The Bavarian firm should therefore return to DTM by 2012 if “certain conditions are respected” by then in the development of the future regulation. See BMW, Audi and Mercedes Competing on the most beautiful European circuits is already making fans of the discipline salivate, as the arrival of a third manufacturer should raise the level of competitiveness. Audi and Mercedes are already delighted.

« That's very good news, says Norbert Haug, director of Mercedes Motorsport. Not only for the DTM but also for the world of motorsport. This shows that the decision of Mercedes and Audi to stay in DTM in these difficult times was important and inspiring. »

Same satisfaction for Wolfgang Ullrich, director of Audi Motorsport. “ On behalf of Audi, I would like to say ?welcome to DTM?. With its long and successful motorsport tradition, BMW has its place in DTM. I am convinced that this manufacturer will learn quickly and will be able to demonstrate its competitiveness in a short period of time. »

Audi and Mercedes will therefore have to prepare for the arrival of BMW, which could quickly find the path to success in the discipline. The new regulations could put the three manufacturers on an equal footing at the start of the 2012 season. But DTM fans will have to wait almost two years to witness these three-way duels.
