C2 – Double for Triple Eight at Gold Coast, McLaughlin-Prémat withdraws after crash

The Surfers Paradise circuit (Australia) located in the town of Gold Coast near Brisbane continued to smile on the men of Triple Eight.

Already authors ofa double on Saturday in Race 1, the two crews of the Red Bull Holden Racing Team have swapped positions this time. Thus, it was Shane van Gisbergen and the experienced Garth Tander who won ahead of Jamie Whincup and Craig Lowndes.

This event took place without the winners of Bathurst 1000, Scott McLaughlin and Alexandre Prémat (Ford). The New Zealander was the victim of a serious accident during testing. The shock was evaluated at 42,7 G!

This crash was an opportunity to admire the spirit of solidarity in Supercars. Rival Shane van Gisbergen did not hesitate to stop his Holden Commodore to help his compatriot.

Taken to hospital as a precaution, the outgoing champion left the observation center on Sunday evening. “He sent me photos and messages during the race, while he was in his hospital bed, explained DJR Team Penske boss Ryan Story. He was in room number 17 (his race number. Editor’s note) ! "

For the record, know thatone of the suspension springs was found on an apartment balcony adjacent to the circuit, as these images prove. A table was broken but fortunately no one was standing there during the crash:

Scott McLaughlin leads the general classification with a comfortable lead of 463 points with only 600 units left to distribute.
