C2 – Rast unexpected winner at Hockenheim, Audi hat-trick

In 2018, René Rast (Audi) won the last six races of the season. DTM. This Sunday, May 5, the German regained his ease from last season by achieving success in Race 2 at Hockenheim (Germany). Nothing was certain, since the 2017 champion started from 16th place on the starting grid!

René Rast came back like a cannonball following a Safety Car phase. The race was neutralized on the seventh lap due to the exit of the track Loïc duval (Audi), then sixth. The Frenchman went into the gravel in the same place as Sebastian Vettel at the GP of Formula 1 2018.

During the neutralization, René Rast decided to go to the pits to change tires. Good pick, since he benefited from better grip afterwards. He took the lead on the 14th lap, only to leave it for a few moments, the time to make a second stop (a pit-stop under SC does not fall into the obligatory stops box).

Three Audi drivers monopolize the podium, also including Nico Müller and Robin Frijns. Pole sitter Philipp Eng (BMW) finished fourth, while Race 1 winner Marco Wittmann (BMW, 8th) was sent into a spin by Pietro Fittipaldi (Audi). The rookie was penalized with a drive-through.

Finally, Paul di Resta (Aston Martin) collects the points for seventh place for the Vantage's DTM debut.
