David Coulthard at Mercedes in DTM

After a career in Formula 1 with 246 Grands Prix and 13 victories, David Coulthard returns to service in DTM. The Scottish pilot will pilot a Mercedes Class C. The 2001 vice world champion walks on the tracks of his former teammate at McLaren in Formula 1 Mika Häkkinen. Indeed, after ending his career in the premier discipline of motorsport, the double Finnish F1 world champion participated for three years in the very competitive German touring championship, from 205 to 2007.

During tests that were, to say the least, conclusive in Monteblanco, Portimao and Valencia, the former driver Red Bull Racing convinced Norbert Haug to give him a seat in the DTM this year.

“The commitment of David Coulthard is very good news for the DTM and for Mercedes Benz, says the vice-president of Mercedes-Benz Motorsport. David worked with us for 15 years, including nine at McLaren Mercedes, and he managed to become vice-world champion. David is known, knowledgeable and friendly. I am delighted that David is entering the DTM with us and it is also a great pleasure for us to be able to support the Red Bull “wings for life” foundation. »

Now it remains for David Coulthard to show himself on the track. With opponents, specialists in the discipline, such as Timo Scheider, Martin Tomczyk, Mattias Ekström and Paul di Resta, the task does not look easy. First round at Hockenheim on April 25.
