Qualifying was particularly hotly contested on the Brands Hatch short circuit. Gary Paffett was the fastest at the end of the last qualifying session and will be aiming for a second victory after his success at the season opener at Hockenheim. The Briton, who took first place with a time of 41”266, will start alongside the German Christian Vietoris. The first line will therefore be occupied only by Mercedes Class C.
However, Bruno Spengler will look to move up the ranks starting from third position with his BMW M3 DTM. The Franco-Canadian will also be able to aim for a second success this year after winning at the Lausitzring by offering the first success to the propeller manufacturer in the discipline for 20 years. Mike Rockenfeller, first Audi driver, will complete the second row ahead of reigning champion Martin Tomczyk (BMW) and Filipe Albuquerque (Audi). After his two bad results, Adrien Tambay takes seventh place and will look to get his first points in the discipline. The Frenchman must hope not to suffer again from the mysterious problems which disrupted the behavior of his Audi A5 DTM in the race.
