DTM – Dr Ullrich disappointed by Audi result

Audi was already under pressure last night after a disappointing qualifying performance at the Norisring. If Mattias Ekström had taken fourth place on the grid, Edoardo Mortara was the only other driver from the Ingolstadt manufacturer to appear in the top ten. The rain that had come for the race was a good opportunity for the hierarchy to be upset, but the A5s DTM were victims of various collisions including that of the Swede who retired at the first turn. Adrien Tambay rose to seventh place before receiving a drive-through for his collision with the Mercedes Susie's Class C Wolff and was only able to cross the line in 15th place. In the end, only Mike Rockenfeller saved the day by taking sixth place.

Dr Wolfgang Ullrich is disappointed by this mediocre result obtained at one of the most important meetings of the season. “This day turned out to be more than disappointing”, recognizes the sporting director of the victorious brand at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “For us the race was pretty much over at the first corner when Eki was pushed into the car in front of him (the BMW M3 DTM of Augusto Farfus) and most of our cars were involved in collisions. Mike Rockenfeller managed to get through the first corner safely but lost a lot of time during his first pit stop. I'm really sorry for the whole team who had worked very hard again over the last few days and weeks. But I am convinced that this work will be rewarded at the Nürburgring (August 19). »
