DTM – Heavy sanctions for Audi

A little reminder of the facts is in order. Sunday August 2, a three-way battle began at the end of the race between the Audi of Timo Scheider and the Mercedes by Pascal Wehrlein and Robert Wickens. The star's two cars initially beat the double champion's RS 5 DTM at turn 2 of the Spielberg track.

But at the next corner, Scheider hit the back of Wickens' Mercedes, taking the latter with him into the Wehrlein gravel trap. Where the controversy arises is that a message heard on the radio a few moments before the incident announced in German “Push it out”.

A sentence straight from the mouth of Dr Wolfgang Ullrich, boss of Audi Sport. Scheider will ultimately be excluded from the race, and the case brought before the DMSB, the governing body of German motorsport.

The latter has just delivered its verdict, and it is heavy for Audi and its driver, found guilty of unsporting conduct. Timo Scheider suspended for this weekend's event in Moscow. For Audi, the penalty is measured in points lost in the championship (the 62 scored in Austria), but also financially, since € 200 fine were inflicted on the ringed brand.

For Dr Ullrich, the sanction is also severe since Audi Sport boss will no longer be allowed in the pitlane until the end of the season, and will not be able to access the radio. Audi decided not to appeal of these decisions.
