DTM – Spengler ends 20 years of absence from BMW

Mercedes was the first to strike by winning the opening event of the season at Hockenheim with victory for Gary Paffett. The Briton threatened again this weekend at the Lausitzring starting from the second row behind the two BMW M3s DTM by Bruno Spengler and Augusto Farfus. If the Brazilian did not resist the attacks of Class C, the Franco-Canadian managed to maintain the advantage despite the pressure to win with a second in advance and offer the first success to BMW since his departure from the discipline in 1992.

“It’s a dream come true for me.”, comments the winner. “I congratulate all the staff at BMW Team Schnitzer. It was a perfect weekend for me: BMW's first DTM pole in 20 years and then the first victory. It's one of the happiest days of my life. The race was incredible. We had a very close fight with the Mercedes drivers and we did everything possible to maintain the advantage. Fortunately it worked. The last lap was the longest of my career. My team and I didn't make a mistake, it was clearly a deciding factor. »
