On the last lap of race 2 of DTM today in Austria, Timo Scheider (Audi) found himself in a struggle with the Mercedes by Pascal Wehrlein and Robert Wickens, a first virile battle taking place at turn 2. Having returned behind the two cars of the star which would have maneuvered in favor of Wehrlein then leader of the championship, the driver of the Audi Sport Team Phoenix finally hit the rear of the Wickens car when braking for the following corner, the latter taking with him into the gravel trap the unfortunate Werhlein.
Where the controversy arose was that a phrase in German heard on Scheider's radio just before the stroller had indicated “Push it out”. "JI'm sorry for shouting these words out of emotion. I don't communicate with the drivers during the race and I didn't know the radio was on. It wasn't an instruction for Timo, explains the boss of Audi Sport, Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich.
I can only apologize to Mercedes for this remark. An expression like that does not reflect my idea of motorsport, but was strictly the consequence of adrenaline at that moment. I'm a runner who was fuming about the way Timo was treated. »
Officials of the German series finally excluded Timo Scheider from the second race, judging the maneuver intentional and all drivers classified from seventh place moving up one place, allowing António Félix da Costa (BMW) to score the tenth place point. The DMSB, the governing body of German motorsport, was also informed of the incident.
