DTM – Timo Scheider offers first pole to Audi

For the first qualifying session of this season, at Hockenheim, the drivers of the DTM had to battle with changing conditions. After the morning rain, the track gradually dried out as the cars passed, which trapped more than one actor in the series. In the end, it was Timo Scheider (Audi RS 5 DTM) who signed the first pole position of the year in 1'35"918. In 1'36"034, the Brazilian Augusto Farfus (Bmw M3 DTM) obtained second place behind the double champion of the discipline, in 2008 and 2009. Both Mercedes AMG C-Coupé of Christian Vietoris (1'36"194) and Robert Wickens (1'36"920) complete the top 4.

Behind the men in Q4, we find a group shot of choice with three champions of the discipline following one another. Mattias Ekström (Audi RS 5 DTM) is 5th, ahead of Gary Paffett (Mercedes AMG C C-Coupé) and the reigning winner, Bruno Spengler (BMW M3 DTM). For his first qualifying session of his DTM career, young Pascal Wehrlein, barely 18 years old, took a very promising 8th place!

Note that many big contenders failed in Q2. Martin Tomczyk, the 2011 champion, Jamie Green, Audi's new British recruit defector from Mercedes, as well as the former driver of Formula 1 Timo Glock (BMW M3 DTM) failed to reach the next level. Adrien Tambay, the only Frenchman in the discipline, also had to stop at this stage. He will start tomorrow Sunday from 13th position. Disappointment also for Edoardo Mortara, the Franco-Italian, who defends trans colorsalpines on the track, could not do better than the 19th time.
