DTM – Wehrlein returns with Mercedes

Mercedes continues the announcements. A few hours after the extension of the contracts by Gary Paffett, Paul di Resta, Lucas Auer and Edoardo Mortara for the 2018 German Touring Car Championship season (DTM), the German manufacturer welcomes again pascal wehrlein in its ranks.

Thanked by Sauber at the end of 2017, Pascal Wehrlein returns to a familiar world. The 23-year-old German arrived in DTM in 2013 to replace the aging Ralf Schumacher. It was in 2015 that he wrote the history of this discipline by becoming the youngest champion (20 years old), on behalf of Mercedes via the HWA team (two victories and five podiums). “I have wonderful memories of my involvement in the DTM, not only with this title, but also with the great team spirit at Mercedes. »

“I carefully followed the news of the championship when I was involved in F1 (with Manor in 2016 then Sauber in 2017). I attended several events; a lot has changed since my last event, but I love challenges and I can't wait to drive the new car", explains Pascal Wehrlein. “Pascal kept in touch with us when he was in F1, specifies Ulrich Fritz, director of Mercedes-AMG Motorsport in DTM. Not a lot of things have changed, like the cars, the tires, the regulations, but we are sure that he will be back on his feet very quickly thanks to his experience and his will. »
