DTM – Wittmann holds Audi at bay at the Nürburgring

With a 39-point lead with four races remaining in the season, Marco Wittmann (BMW) is well on his way to winning the title. The German put all the chances on his side by taking pole at the Nürburgring after setting a time of 1'22"780 during the last qualifying session. The Championship leader managed to keep the advantage over the very fast Audis on the Eifel track since the top six is only completed by RS 5s DTM.

Edoardo Mortara was the closest to the poleman, losing just over a tenth behind, just ahead of reigning champion Mike Rockenfeller and Briton Jamie Green. Timo Scheider and Miguel Molina complete the list ahead of Daniel Juncadella who places first Mercedes in seventh place. Adrien Tambay (Audi) qualified in 11th position behind Paul di Resta (Mercedes), Christian Vietoris (Mercedes) and Nico Müller (Audi).

However, the suspense in the Championship could lose a little more of its intensity at the end of this weekend following the poor performance of Mattias Ekström (Audi), Marco Wittmann's main rival. The Swede only took the penultimate time and will have to count on the capricious weather at the Nürburgring to hope to create a surprise and maintain his chances of winning a third coronation.

The start of the Nürburgring race will be given around 13:30 p.m.
