Audi reveals its teams for 2012

After winning the title with Martin Tomczyk, Audi is fielding a new list of drivers for the 2012 season, with the reigning champion having left to join BMW. ABT Sportsline will display the most experienced duo since it will feature Mattias Ekström and Timo Scheider, who between them have four titles in the German discipline. The Swede and the Austrian will be accompanied by Rahel Frey, who will compete in his second season in DTM, Oliver Jarvis disappearing from the list after being confirmed at Audi in 24 Hours of Le Mans. Team Phoenix, which won the title last year, will feature Miguel Molina and Mike Rockenfeller, who missed a good part of the season in 2011 following his accident at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Finally, Team Rosberg will field the last two A5 DTMs with Filipe Albuquerque and Edoardo Mortara.

Dr. Wolfgang Ullrich, Audi's sporting director, is satisfied with the list of drivers entered, who will have a hard time coping with the return of BMW and the experience of Mercedes. “I am convinced that with our three partner teams and our experienced drivers we are well prepared for the new DTM season which promises to be exciting with the battle between the three German manufacturers. Every detail will be of great importance with the new regulations. This is why we wanted to continue with our teams and our drivers. Mattias and Timo know how to win and have over a hundred DTM races behind them. Mike (Rockenfeller) took his first victory in 2011, Filipe (Albuquerque), Edoardo (Mortara) and Miguel (Molina) all reached the podium for the first time last year. Rahel (Frey) can also spring a surprise. It showed great potential during winter testing. »
